About
OUR MISSION
To promote economic and environmental sustainability through international collaboration with local Bolivian initiatives.

WHO WE ARE Sustainable Bolivia is a non-profit community of 36 partner organizations in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Our primary objective is to procure much needed human and financial resources for our partners, while providing international students and professionals access to global educational opportunities and practical work experience.

VOLUNTEER AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES All of our volunteer placements match individual skills and interests to local needs to assure the most rewarding experience. Our volunteers and interns contribute to a range of projects spanning from education, health, environmental conservation, ecological construction, cultural and biological conservation, microfinance, women’s empowerment, and much more.

SUSTAINABLE BOLIVIA LANGUAGE SCHOOL Our Spanish and Quechua classes provide high quality instruction for students of all levels and ages. All the profits from our lessons are reinvested to help support the work of our organization. Our philosophy facilitates a positive studying environment while allowing us to employ the most qualified teachers in Cochabamba.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM This program was established to provide scholarships to qualified Bolivian students who would otherwise be unable to attend university. Working with our partner organizations, we select students based on need and academic achievement.

Volunteer/Intern
Volunteer and Internship Opportunities in Bolivia
Sustainable Bolivia is a community of over 30 partner non-profits with numerous volunteer and internship opportunities. Available positions cover a range of areas such as education, youth service, social service, environmental conservation, healthcare, agriculture, the arts, and research. All of our placements match individual skills and interests with local needs to provide the most rewarding and beneficial experience.Placement is determined by applicant interest, as well as time commitment, language ability, and previous experience.  We encourage all interested individuals to review our volunteer/internship opportunities, found on our partner organizations page, paying special attention to the minimum requirements.  Together, we’ll work together to find the most rewarding experience, while ensuring that our volunteers and interns make a sustainable impact in the community.

The Community
As part of the Sustainable Bolivia community, volunteers/interns attain access to funding through our
mini grant program, free phone calls to over 60 countries worldwide, transport from airport upon arrival, wireless internet access, orientation, weekly guest lectures, as well as 24 hour staff support.  Additionally we provide family home stay opportunities, private or shared accommodations and reduced travel prices.  We organize optional social activities, shared dinners, delicious food from our garden, art exhibitions, movie screenings in our outdoor cinema, as well as yoga and dance classes.

Sustainable Bolivia Long Term Volunteers (Interns)
Since some institutions require longer time commitments (due to considerable training periods), most of our positions are only available to those able to stay for longer periods of time.  Personal advantages for these individuals include the opportunity to develop deeper relationships with members of the community and the ability to truly see the merit of one’s work. Additionally, interns will benefit professionally as they develop new skills, improve their language abilities and gain cross-cultural experience.  All long term volunteers are considered interns and, if desired, will receive a letter of recommendation upon successful completion of their stay.  Additionally all interns will be given access to
mini grant funding to compete a project or make purchases at their internship location.

Short Term Volunteers
Unfortunately due to work, school or financial constraints, many volunteers do not have the capacity to donate months of their time.  With these restrictions in mind, Sustainable Bolivia has developed a range of volunteer opportunities that operate on a short term basis.  We offer a few placements that are a month long. Occasionally, we can accommodate students who wish to participate in a shorter term program, however our priority is always longer-term placements as both the organization and volunteer benefit from a longer-commitment. We work hard to accommodate all schedules and wants for volunteers who wish to maximize their stay in Bolivia and make a lasting contribution.

What We Offer
Sustainable Bolivia provides full or part-time volunteer placements, access to funding through mini grant program, free phone calls to over 60 countries worldwide, free transport from airport upon arrival, free wireless internet access, free orientation and city map as well as 24 hour staff support.  Additionally we provide reduced price language classes, family home stay opportunities, private or shared accommodations and reduced travel prices.  We also organize optional social activities in the evenings and on weekends.

Accommodations
Sustainable Bolivia Accommodations Sustainable Bolivia offers a range of accommodations based on personal preferences and length of stay. We provide accommodations with local families as well as comfortable rooms centrally located in downtown Cochabamba’s cultural district.

Homestays with Sustainable Bolivia We believe that total immersion is the most effective method to improve one’s Spanish and gain insight into Bolivian realities. With this in mind, Sustainable Bolivia offers our students, volunteers, and interns, homestay accommodations with carefully selected families in Cochabamba. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity as it provides an invaluable source of Spanish instruction and an unforgettable intercultural and interpersonal experience. Individuals who choose this option will receive a private and comfortable room, cleaning services, and three home cooked meals a day. Probably the most valuable aspect of the homestay experience is the chance to integrate oneself into the daily lives and activities of a local family; to exchange stories, to make new friends, and to experience first-hand Bolivian warmth and hospitality.

Private/Shared Rooms Sustainable Bolivia also provides our interns, volunteers, and students the chance to stay in one of three fully furnished large houses in downtown Cochabamba (see pictures below). Only a short walk to the "Cancha", Cochabamba’s famous market, all of our rooms are private, quiet and safe. Additionally, the central location of our houses provides easy access to many of Cochabamba’s numerous cultural and nightlife activities. Our houses feature fully stocked kitchens, spacious patios and backyards, hammocks and balconies. In all of our houses our rooms come fully equipped and furnished with free cleaning services, free wireless internet access, and free unlimited telephone calls to over 60 countries. For interested individuals and couples, Sustainable Bolivia invites you to come and be a part of our family.
