Funding Resources for Students

Foerderer Award for International Study

The Foerderer Award for International Study is available to students in good academic standing in JCBS, SKMC, JCHP, JCN, JCP and JCPH who wish to enhance their educational experience by studying outside the United States for a period not less than 3 weeks and not to exceed 10 weeks. Students interested in Spring Travel (November 1-May 30 of the current academic year) should apply by the October deadline. Students interested in Summer Travel (May 31-August 31 of the current academic year) should apply by the January deadline.  Applicants who miss deadlines will be ineligible for that cycle of funding. for To apply, click on "Programs" on the left hand menu.

American Medical Student Association

National Medical Specialty Societies

This is a comprehensive list of national medical specialty societies (with their web sites). Many societies offer funding for students doing work in their field. For instance, the American Academy of Pediatrics has two - four $500 scholarships each year for pediatric students and residents doing electives abroad.

Fogarty International Center/Ellison Medical Foundation

A fully-funded one-year clinical research training experience for graduate level U.S. students in the health professions.

NIH Fogarty International Center

The grants, awards and fellowships on this NIH website may be of interest to those considering a career in international health or taking on significant international projects.

Massachusetts Medical Society

The Global Medicine Committee offers grants in the amount of approximately $2,000 for students and residents.

University of Washington's International Health Group Sources of Funding

IDSA Medical Scholars Program

Infectious Disease Society of American Education and Research Foundation offers summer scholarships to medical students in U.S. medical schools with mentorship by an IDSA member or fellow. The scholarship activity must focus on pediatric or adult infectious diseases and may involve either clinical or research activities.

Christian Medical and Dental Associations

This organization offers scholarships to students who are interested in Christian missions.
