CES is a private, autonomous, non-denominational, and non-profit university that forms graduate and post-graduate professionals with the highest human, ethical and scientific qualities in different areas of knowledge along with a special emphasis in health related programs.
Since it was founded on July 5, 1977, CES has permanently strived to innovate in the formation of the human resource advance in the internationalization of the Institution and develop a virtual educational proposal with the objective of achieving national and international recognition of its graduate’s professional practice.
CES is highly recognized by the social and academic community. This fact is reflected by its institutional accreditation of high quality, by the National Ministry of Education in 2014, becoming the first university in Colombia to have its programs accredited.
As part of its academic endeavors, CES has developed a great variety of postgraduate programs that meet the expectations of our alumni and the need for specialized resources in different fields.
On March 22, 2007, CES received resolution 1371 from the Ministry of Education which acknowledges it as a University. The change from university institution to University was the result of the desire and the decision of the academic community, reflected in the 2000-2010 development plan.
Achieving this recognition meant a breakthrough in all areas of the institution, following the guidelines of the Board of Founders, the Superior Council and the road map established by the Development Plan, always focusing on three basic functions: Research, Teaching and Extension.
The program will run for four weeks and will include:
1. Lectures on “Public Health” and the Colombian Health Care System. Students can also attend some of the lectures for CES students.
2. Clinical Rotations at Medellin General Hospital or other CES-affiliated clinical venues. These may include experiences in Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Internal Medicine. Each of this will be supervised by a CES faculty member, and these will be provided primarily for our students. Each rotation will run for half a day each week (either mornings or afternoons, alternating between two services at the hospital).
3. Rotation through a community/rural clinic with particular emphasis on infectious diseases.
4. A total of 40 hours of tutoring in Medical Spanish, distributed over the four weeks of the program (about 2 hours each session).
A guided historical and anthropological tour of the city and the region will be offered during the last week of the program. This will be led by an anthropologist connected to CES Medical School.
1. We have a list of families, each willing to house one of our students. Some of these families are those of students attending the same university (CES) and we will try to “pair” each one of our students with a CES student.
2. Also, apartments and hotels near the medical school are available at a reasonable cost, and the CES medical school can help make the arrangements.
Transportation to and from the airport will be provided.
Taxis are inexpensive (about US $ 5 the average fare). There is also a Metro and other public transportation systems (Buses).
